Australia’s dumped tyre pile is getting bigger

Australia’s recovery of used car, bus and truck (automotive) tyres is going backwards, according to Tyre Stewardship Australia’s (TSA) tyre recovery data for 2022-23.

The report shows recovery has dropped to under 80 per cent, a downward trend since the 2019-20 peak of 90 per cent. The remaining 20 per cent equates to 11.3 million car tyres being stockpiled, illegally dumped, landfilled, or hidden in warehouses, on industrial sites, unsuspecting landowners’ properties,…
