Australia’s safety standards for new cars are lagging behind those in many other parts of the world, but a motoring expert says that may not be a bad thing.

Life-saving technology which is compulsory in Europe remains optional here.

But Newscorp national motoring editor, Richard Blackburn, says we’re better off without mandatory technology.
