California requires drivers to carry insurance to cover the costs of damages and injuries to others in a car accident. The state requires drivers to carry a minimum of $15,000 of bodily injury liability insurance per person, $30,000 of bodily injury liability insurance per accident, and $5,000 of property damage liability insurance.
